Granny
in Giggles on November 15, 2019
Eighteen years…this picture is eighteen years old. And I cut the last line off of the bottom of the shirt. It is supposed to read, “…My Granny is the Biggest Baddest Meanest Lady in Town.”
My mother gave that shirt to my oldest, Ethan at my first baby shower. Here’s a little sidebar: My mother barely reaches the you must be THIS TALL to ride this ride marker at most amusement parks; however, what she lacks in actual stature, she more than makes up for in spunk!
And, right about now, many of you are picturing her, and thinking of me…murmuring something about the apple not falling far from the tree. I get it. Haha. Trust me, I’ve heard it before. That does not scare me, nor does it offend me.
Well, now, my mother is quite the “seasoned” Granny. Don’t get me wrong! She still is not one to be trifled with, crossed, or heckled…but she has, shall I say, mellowed a bit in the last eighteen years. Two years ago, my baby sister had her first kiddo…and the biggest, baddest, meanest lady in town…melted.
To be honest…we all did.
When I was having my kids, I was so busy having my kids, I didn’t realize how much fun babies were! When my sister made me an Auntie…oh.my.gosh…let the good times ROLL!!
You see, there is a time for everything. When I decided to make my mother a Granny, she was about the age that I am now. Let that sink in for a minute. I can tell you without a doubt, that I 100% LOVE being an aunt…but also with that SAME gusto, I am NOT ready to slap “Grandma”, “Memaw”, or “Gammy” onto my resume. I would wager that transition was difficult for my mother as well.
My mother is fun and fun-loving. She is tough-as-nails and absolutely a-typical in everything she does. But, watching her morph into something soft and familiar with my niece over the last two and half years has been one of the sweetest experiences I’ve ever witnessed. YEARS from now, when it’s my turn, I want to be sassy, fun-loving, and just as a-typical as the Biggest Baddest Meanest Lady in Town.

I truly hope the video plays!! The sweetest part is at the end. Chummy says, plain as day, “Tank you, Ganny!”
Melt. My. Heart.
Have a great day, and THANK YOU, GRANNY!!
