Rain, Rain, Go AWAY
in Giggles on February 19, 2019
Well, it’s raining in Houston…again…or should I say still. It has been raining for so long, I honestly cannot remember the last time I saw the sun.
The sky outside my bedroom window is grey and sad looking. I understand how and why people suffer from seasonal depression. This type of weather is simply icky; and it makes me feel icky. It is cold…at least by Houston standards.
It is 45 degrees outside. We will warm up (that’s laughable) to a balmy 49 by the high point in the day.
I realize that a good chunk of the country is still fighting subzero degree temperatures, and I sympathize. But…for us, down here, this is wearing us out. We live in Houston for a reason. We don’t mind the heat and humidity that assaults us each and every summer. It is our choice to live here, mostly because of the mild winters. It’s a handy trade-off. We are not accustomed to cold. We simply cannot take it.
When it is grey outside, all I really want to do is lay in bed and watch TV. I don’t really want to read, get out and about, and I certainly do not want to do anything that requires any energy, i.e. household domestic activities.
As I’m typing this, all I can see is a dreary and gloomy backyard. A backyard that looks more like a muddy swamp than a south Texas landscape. My Fat Dog is curled up across my legs, and she’s waiting for me to turn my fans back on and go back to sleep.
Sigh.
Oh well. Spring will come…eventually. It will last for about two days, then the oppressive, familiar, and wonderful heat will take its place. But, until then, I’m going on strike. I do not care to venture outside. I will sit, right here, in my room and wait for the sun to come out.
I would hope that the sun will come out tomorrow, but according to the weather forecast, severe thunderstorms are our only companion for the next five days.
Here’s hoping that your day is sunnier than mine.
