Spring Break 2.0

in Giggles on March 16, 2020

So, it’s Day One of Week Two of Spring Break 2020.

Cool.

Should be fun…where should we go?

What should we do?

Oh, wait.

We can’t go anywhere or do anything…Earth is closed.

Honestly, I don’t really even have words for the insanity that has befallen the human race over the last ten days.  The grocery stores in America are E M P T Y.

EMPTY.

The stores in Houston don’t even empty out when we’re looking at the business end of a Cat 5 hurricane.

Y’all.

It has simply dumbfounded me how quickly fear and panic has spread globally.  The impact of that, will have a monumental ripple effect throughout the worldwide economy. This is not a health crisis.  This is an economic crisis.

We have witnessed in a matter of days, First World countries close…not halt…not slow down…CLOSE…as in come to an immediate and screeching stop.

Let’s just think about this for a second: It’s not just big sporting events that have been cancelled; it is now ALLLLL gathering places…restaurants, coffee shops, movie theaters, arcades….

How are the servers and workers supposed to pay their rent?? Their electric bills?? Buy food??? Diapers??  How are they going to get basic necessities if they no longer have a paycheck??

I realize that this post will most likely ruffle some feathers.  Many of my posts do.  But, let’s think about this rationally for just a minute.  We have flu season every year.  Every year the flu claims roughly 30,000 lives in our country alone.

Nothing closes.

Nothing stops.

Life goes on.

All grocery stores still have toilet paper.

What made this Coronavirus so special? News coverage.  It was new and exciting…and folks were probably getting bored with election coverage.

For the record, this “new” Coronavirus isn’t new.  I’ve got a nearly empty bottle of Clorox Scentiva counter spray, that clearly states on the back that it kills the human Coronavirus.

My point is this: calm down.  Wash your hands.  And GO BACK TO WORK.

I can’t believe the lives that are being destroyed over this.  Pray for the people that will not have jobs when everyone realizes what a mistake the mass hysteria was.  Our unemployment rate WAS 3.4%…after this…it will be in double digits.

  • I agree with you wholeheartedly Dallas!!! They won’t even allow me to go in and see my mother at the hospital anymore. And she needs me badly, she’s so depressed!
