It’s barely 8:00 on Friday morning, and I’m awake. Not just sort of awake…but WIDE awake. It’s officially summer (whatever that means for moms), but this week I happen to be accompanying my husband on a “business trip” to the incredible country of Costa Rica.
This place looks like something straight out of Jurassic Park. I’m drinking my coffee on the balcony of our treetop bungalow, just watching birds of all shapes, sizes, and colors circle the tree canopy–dipping down briefly to rest, only to take flight again. While I can see the shimmering blue water of the Pacific Ocean, I am too far away to actually hear it.
I did not know there were canary yellow butterflies.
I know now.
I’ve seen Howler monkeys and one Capuchin monkey, whom I named, Dexter. On our first night here, a sloth decided to join us for dinner on the tree next to our restaurant table. We asked him to tell us a joke! (For further explanation on that, watch the movie, Zootopia)
For many of my readers, y’all know that I am not exactly the best little traveler. That in and of itself sounds like an oxymoron, considering my last post on this site was from the Goa Beach off the coast of INDIA. Let me say, this place is worth the trip. For my friends in Houston, it is a quick two and a half hour flight. The beauty of this country is second only to Hawaii…and this place is closer and markedly cheaper.
You know I cannot sign off without a tidbit of advice:
For all of my parents out there in Blogland who have kiddos under the age of 18…please take the time to stay connected to your spouse. Jeff and I are here without our kids. In fact, we’ve made it a point to travel ALONE since our kids were born. We can’t always run off to India or Costa Rica or other exotic and exciting places, but we have spent some really fun weekends at the Marriott in downtown Houston! Jeff and I are coming up our twentieth wedding anniversary, soon, our babies will all leave the nest. I am completely thrilled at the prospect of spending uninterrupted time with my husband! I am not worried we won’t have anything to talk about, I am not afraid we have drifted apart…why? Because we have poured as much into each other, as we did the kids. It’s not too late if this is a new and foreign concept to you. Start small. A night downtown. Swap kids with a friend, so they can do the same thing. Trust me when I tell you, IT IS WORTH IT.
That’s all for now. The sun is shinning and the beach is calling.
