Welcome to Autumn
in Giggles on September 22, 2016
So yesterday the thermometer in my truck read 96 degrees…it was the first the First Day of Fall, or as we in Southeast Texas like to call it, Summer 2.0
September is Fall Hat Month. Did you know that? I didn’t…until recently. I am desperately looking for any-and everything to put me in the right frame of mind for Fall…Heaven knows the temperatures down here just aren’t doing the trick! If I were to put on a fall hat right now, I would literally be in danger of suffering a heat stroke. Visors, baseball caps, and Stetsons are still the preferred hat of choice for Houstonians.
I have done my due diligence at Hobby Lobby, searching for just the right collaboration of fall foliage and pumpkin decor. (Thank you, Tracy!) However, most of those trips were spent with me being inexplicably drawn into the Christmas section of the store…
I have red and orange flowers and leaves strewn about my house and front porch. Technically I am ready for Autumn. Unfortunately, this blasted Texas heat is not cooperating with my mental state of readiness. So, what about you? How do you prepare for Fall?
I feel like Fall is the over-looked season of the year…Mr. Left-Behind and Forgotten. Perhaps I feel that way because down here in Houston, we simply do not have four distinct seasons. We have different variations of hot, with a splash of humidity thrown into the mix to keep us guessing. The weather people are predicting a cold front to move through our area over the next couple of days—brace yourselves—temps are expected to drop into the low 90’s.
Maybe by Thanksgiving I’ll be able to break out a Fall hat or two…until then, I’ll keep my summer tan lines a bit longer, turn down my A/C, and grab a pumpkin spice latte from the closest Starbucks. That’s how we do Fall down here.
Here’s hoping your day brings all you hoped!
